According to chapter 5 of my english textbook, syllogism is a form of reasoning. There are two types of reasoning within the definition. There is deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning. Syllogism is also comprised of three parts. The first is the major premise. The major premise is followed by the minor premise and finally there is a conclusion. Syllogism is apparent in everyday life, both valid and invalid. I will use my employer as an example.
I work for T-Mobile. T-Mobile is on a never ending quest to put customers first and to always provide an exceptional customer experience 100% of the time. This is a goal of many companies, however, it is the syllogism behind T-Mobile’s plan of action that is making that goal a reality. The logic is that if your employees are happy then your employees will naturally yield happy customers. The major premise: If you keep your employees happy then your employees will naturally make their customers happy. The minor premise: T-Mobile keeps their employees happy. The conclusion: T-Mobile’s customers are happy.
T-Mobile is customer obsessed. The validity of the major premise, minor premise and conclusion offer the deductive reasoning that if the company is company is customer obsessed then the company must be employee driven. The company provides a plethora of benefits, assistance, flexibility and balance. The company has put in place a “work-life” balance policy that is not often seen within large companies. The policy simply states that work and your life should have a balance and they have implemented steps to ensure that this balance is maintained within every employee. The company offers a plethora of benefits to both their full-time and part-time employees. Those are just the minimum perks.
Other ways T-Mobile puts this logic to work include, celebrating diversity and the many culture of all of their employees, funding charities of the employees’ choosing, sending immediate aid to employees who are affected by natural disasters as well as forming teams of other employees not affected to go and assist with clean up and/or rebuilding and a multitude of company related discounts. T-Mobile celebrates employee appreciation in several ways. The company even offers fertility assistance for those who need such assistance and paid time off for mothers and fathers after child-birth and for same-sex parents. That time is referred to as family bonding time as T-Mobile believes that those first few weeks of family time is critical to the foundation of the family unit. This is an amazing example of the effort T-Mobile makes to keep their employees happy.
These few examples have barely scratched the surface of all the company does to maintain the diversity, inclusion, work-life balance and overall happiness of each individual employee. The resources offered to help their employees in everyday life alleviate a lot of stress that could otherwise be brought into the workplace and overflow into the customers experience. Based on the previously stated premises, the companies genuine and consistent efforts to keep their employees happy has lead to T-Mobile being ranked #1 in customer satisfaction. T-Mobile’s employees are satisfied, so therefore T-Mobile’s customers are satisfied.
